Volunteers with North Carolina Baptist Men (NCBM) disaster relief training have two opportunities to serve.

About 30 N.C. Baptists are providing a base camp in Hyde County for firefighters trying to control a fire that has burned about 40,000 acres in the area.

A command unit, three shower units and a laundry unit are in the area. A feeding team is serving food from a school cafeteria.

Another NCBM team left June 16 for Davenport, Iowa, to help flood victims. The team is taking Manna One and is expected to start serving up to 40,000 meals a day on June 17. Another team is expected to leave for Iowa on June 22.

Anyone interested in helping should contact Mary Mountz at (800) 395-5102, ext. 5606.

NCBM officials also asked N.C. Baptists to pray for the relief efforts. Those wishing to contribute financially can make a check out to NCBM Disaster Relief and mail it to P.O. Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512. The disaster being supported should be noted on the check.
